Being a cat lover and an indoor gardener is tough. Many common indoor plants, including pothos (pictured above), monstera, and fiddle leaf fig, are toxic to our feline friends.
Coincidentally, I have found that my cats are the most interested in the plants that are the most likely to harm them.

So how do you keep kitty safely away from your prized plants?

For many homes with cats, simply starting with research at the plant nursery will tell you which plants are safe, toxic, and poisonous to felines. There are many alternatives to the more toxic plants, including the cat-safe snake plants, spider plants, and bamboo palms.

However, if you already own some toxic varieties, you can try a homemade spray containing lavender essential oil diluted in water to keep kitty away.

Cats are extremely sensitive to smells, and often find the scent of lavender repulsive. This spray may keep your cat disinterested in your houseplants, ensuring the safety of both.
